I have just purchased a new Asus 22" monitor and am having trouble. My text is not as readable as it should be. It isn't blurry but the lettering isn't completely black in that the 'thinner' parts fo the formation of letters have gaps. It is driving me nuts as I do a lot of wordprocessing and the only way I can get it to be easy on my eyes is to use the CTRL and my mouse wheel to enlarge the type on the screen until I can only view part of the width of the page. When I am wordprocessing I need to see the whole width of the page so I can see previous formatting. I have tried changing the resolution but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have the VDI cable in - I guess I could try and use the old cable and see if that makes a difference.

I would be SOOOOOOO grateful for any help

Thank you
Donna

Make sure you select the correct rate for your monitor. Go to Control Panel open the display settings and go to Advanced button and check the monitor configuration.

Do you have ClearType enabled? You can check this by going to Display Properties | Appearance | Effects and then tick the box next to "use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" and slect ClearType.

I have reset my screen resolution as suggested - and made my Icons extra large... but now my screen keeps going black occasionally like it is refreshing itself.

I have just noticed that if my screen was set as suggested it has lines - like moving static on the desktop screen. If I drop the resolution to 1280 x 10245 they go away... and I think the blank 'refresh' screen has gone too.

But... my photos are long and skinny - or fat and wide!

What model is this monitor? Is it a LCD? Check the manual for its native resolution - you should always run a LCD in its native resolution otherwise things will be blurry.

It is an ASUS VW202/VW222 Series LCD Monitor. It has a manual but the English part of it is only 4 pages indicating how to connect cables.

Asus website shows 1680 x 1050 as native resolution.

I was just going to post this...

You should run this monitor at 1680x1050, anything else will show blurry and distorted.

Tried changing it to that but I keep getting the screen go black like it is refreshing - it doesn't do it on 1280x1024

Does your video driver support that? Once a resolution is selected you have to click "OK" to keep it. Is this appearing or just going to a black screen and then back? If that's the case check the video card and drivers.

I do click OK to keep it - not sure how to sort out the video driver info.

Please tell us the make and model of your graphics card and we will point you to the place to find a driver.
