I just received an email pointing out that Windows Server 2008 RTM is now available on Connect, for 30 days.

From the Vista Team Blog: Announcement:
"New customers should feel great about buying Windows Vista today, knowing that when everything is ready, SP1 will be available to them via Windows Update."

That's a pretty telling statement...roughly translated (sorry I only have dictionaries in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese until my full release) this means "We know it's cr@p, we know you know it's cr@p, we want you to know that we know you know and we also know that you won't touch Vista with a 10 foot pole until we get some stability into it"

That said, I'm much happier with Vista since using the RC1 of SP1 - as I mentioned elsewhere already.

There is no product key for those downloads. I hope there is a minimum activation period (or trial period) so that when you get Windows Server in MSDN or TechNet you can just input the product key without reinstalling again Laughing

You will get 30days before you have to activate. I believe the ability to reset the activation timer has been removed with SP1/WS2008.

No free copies of Server 08 for beta testers. Fair enough I say, after all the complaining that went on when we got free copies of Vista Ultimate.

Nathan just confirmed in comments section of my post that there is 60 days before we can activate Smile

The alignment of the Vista kernel in SP1 to that of Server 2008 was one of the first details mentioned by Microsoft. Oddly enough it's also the one thing most people have forgotten about about.
