What is the version stamp on the file?
Any previous file version tab present?

In any case updating the jre may make no difference, it may be some condition that has occurred in the ups program causing it to get stuck in some kind of loop.

Have any driver updates been applied to the machine recently?

Tried the AV disable and restart machine with no AV?

Version stamp is 6.0.450.6

Yes there is a previous version tab, no previous versions available.

I recently installed a USB wifi dongle for testing but it caused problems with network connections so I rolled the OS back to the restore point before installing the dongle.

Am trying to restart PC without AV in startup. Just noticed InstallAnywhere by Acresso in startup list.

I'm not 100% sure but I suspect your jre version is the last public release of jre6. You could check.

Oracle have released later updates for paying customers. It may not be that hard to obtain and verify one. But picking a jre problem is jumping to conclusions a bit.

I suggest your best bet ia contacting the official support for your ups and working your way up the chain. It is likely this issue has been investigated and understood by engineers at some level.
