Tried the hard reset, twice. Tpm.msc still gives the same message.

When doing the hard reset, the surface logo flashed up twice, then the BIOS screen came up. I kept holding down the buttons though well past that screen and it vanished. Is that what's supposed to happen?

can you log a support call?  that way you'll get an engineer who can work with you thru to resolution

Just finished a Support Chat with a very nice and helpful tech called Carl.  Going to try a factory reset when I get home, and if that doesn't work investigate a replacement.  Great service (so far), and a commitment from Carl to stay involved through to resolution (rather than being bounced to different support people throughout the process).
