Yes,  +1's for the mug. Where can I get one?

And a curiosity question: Why didn't the HP try the next boot device when it couldn't find an OS on the USB?

Went round to a friend's place a week ago as his printer had just stopped printing. Everything looked OK so was a bit puzzled. Decided to try another USB port and found the printer was plugged into the RJ45 socket!!

Common issue, USB fits perfectly.

Thats a very good question. May HP's have had this 'issue' for 10+ years. Yet they still persist with it.
Better question is why make USB 1st boot device. Its so rare that USB needs to be preferred boot device .
Its easily fixed by changing a bios setting .....but.....

Ive seen HP's, even after setting USB to be last bootable device(or non bootable), when plugging in a new USB HD/stick the HP bios will go
'hey, havnt seen that usb storage before, I better make it the 1st boot device then, regardless of what the owner wanted'
urrrgh

Got the mug online, from a UK website. If I can find the link, will post.

Problem solving steps for my Mum, you may find these useful ;)

  • Is it plugged in?
  • Is EVERYTHING plugged in, to the right place?
  • Are you sure it's plugged in?
  • Is the power on to the house? What if you plug something else into the socket the computer uses?
  • What lights are on?
  • Did you plug anything new in?
  • Did you install any new software, or run any updates?

etc

I'm not sure if those are useful ... if they can't give you an accurate answer!

In any case, wouldn't have solved Mauricio's problem ;p

well, considering that when you first try to plug in a usb stick it won't go in, so you flip it around which is guaranteed to be the wrong way and you should have just pushed a bit harder on the first attempt ...

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
