Have you thought about using the below process to reset the password/create a new admin account.

If you suspect something wrong with the profile or windows install, try adding the account via a different method and see if that works.

Login as the "Administrator" account

Press Windows key + R

Type compmgmt.msc

Go to System Tools --> Local Users and Groups --> Users

Double-click on the account you want to have admin priviliges

Ensure "Account is disabled" is NOT ticked and that "Account is locked out" is either not ticked, or completely greyed out.

Go to the "Member Of" tab, click "Add"

Type "Administrators"

Press OK and close everything down.

The only obvious issue I can think during this process is that the Administrator account might be disabled by default, in which case the first regular user account added to the system should've had full admin rights to begin with.

Thanks for the reply. Tried this. Both Admin and Ken E. account were showing as in the Admin group. Removed and added Ken E. again. And Still unable to delete any programs in the Programs Features section.

I dont have any idea about Windows Powershell.. I have never needed to open it and have no clue. Which one would I open and what commands would I use to add remove Admin permissions?

&Ok you have access to gui so no need for powershell. I'm thinking it might be UAC related. Maybe as a test try a safe mode boot and see if those users can remove programs in that mode. I'm assuming safe mode disables UAC.

Edit: or test by disabling UAC for the machine is the other way but you might not like that one.

Using that GUI process there wasn't any errors. Everything was looking great. Using the command prompt process everything completes with no errors. We can add and remove Administrator permissions. But just doesnt allow us to remove any programs under the programs features section.

We were trying to uninstall DriverUpdate...

UAC - User Account control.... I had to look that up. Ok will see if my friend is able to do that. Thanks guys.

Hi,

Ok this works in that we can uninstall each individual software. But the problems of not having admin access still remain.

Additionally I just discovered his copy of Windows is not actually registered..... that can't help ggrrrrrr..

is it just this error message on uninstall?

if it just that particular piece of software, can you uninstall others?

can do you not perform other local admin tasks? (ie admin CMD prompt)

Hi, Yes cant uninstall anything (unless using that microsoft "fix"), it says: You do not have sufficient access to uninstall "BlahBlah" Please contact your system administrator.

I think it would be quicker just to uninstall and reinstall windows... he has downloaded an ISO and is using an SSD for drive C: So I think we shall go with that.

thats often the best fix, but do a clean install , not an upgrade.
Also, Who knows whats going happen with un-activated win10.
I have 2 unactivated installs here, some things are definitely locked out

Also, if this was the free upgrade, and was never activated , you may not have a valid 10 lic to activate as the free period has passed : although some have reported
that the free ug is still available, for now.

Try a re-install , then see if it auto activates. If not, try the win7 install key (that used to work on 10)

have you tried activating 10 & see if that helps?
