@richms: You seem more knowledgeable than me in almost every area but I do have this working on my Android tablet using tightvnc with remote ripple. The mouse function is a little weird but it works quite well. There is a faint outline of the 'mouse' on the screen that becomes clearer if you tap on it. There is a left and right key and something else between them, presumably a middle key. When active the mouse will jump to wherever you tap on the screen and also left click at that location. I have tried this and it works, but it takes some getting used to. I wouldn't want to have to use it more than absolutely necessary, especially on a very small screen like a phone. The virtual keyboard just works normally. It pops up whenever you tap on anything that requires keyboard input.

Just to control, I use Intel Remote Keyboard on my win10 stick and on my android phone and tablet. Bit clunky. Seems to work fine, but don't know if it is available to control Win7.

This is interesting. I got curious and hooked up a keyboard and mouse to my tablet. This is an old, cheap, generic 4.1.1 Android, so nothing special. After starting TightVNC they wouldn't work on the desktop, but when I opened Notepad they both worked fine! I only have one USB port and no hub available so I had to try them one at a time but both seemed to work normally. When I closed Notepad they stopped working again. Whether they would also work with other applications I don't know. I will experiment some more tomorrow but the tablet needs to charge first.

That's why I use an ultra ultrabook :) Sick of all these incompatibilities with tablets ... sorry not helping here am I ...
OK, I just re-ran my tests on a fully charged tablet. I had some problems with inconsistent behaviour at first, but I'm pretty sure this just has to do with a bad USB connector. Once it settled down everything worked perfectly, desktop, Explorer, Notepad. I connected a hub and was able to operate the mouse and keyboard together without any problem. It all worked just like any normal desktop computer. @richms, I have to conclude that there is an issue specific to your set-up, whether software or hardware. This seems to work completely normally for me.
