(I have no idea what forum to post this on. Maybe a mod can help me out.)

I would like to remote control a Win 7 PC with an Android 4.2 tablet. Anydesk doesn’t support Android yet and I can’t get the TeamViewer app to work. Can anyone help me along the way with this?

Does your computer support RDP access, you will require a Pro version of windows or above.

There are lots of RDP apps for Android, though I can't imagine much more unpleasant than trying to control a computer from such a small screen.

The machine I want to control is running Home Premium. It would not be easy to upgrade. I want to control it from a tablet so the screen size isn't too bad. TeamViewer is supposed to be able to do this but the Android app just gives me a useless error with no options.

VNC should work fine.  I know of others using VNC.  It's available for almost any operating system.  Install server component on computer, TightVNC is free, and a client on phone.

Teamviewer?
It's great for remote access to remote PC's.
I see there is an android app now.

You would need to install teamviewer software on both devices.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason, I am having major problems getting RD apps to install on my tablet but I did manage to get VNC to work. It would be fine except for the awkward mouse so I may keep trying other alternatives, but for the moment it is better than nothing. Thanks again for the suggestions.

VNC is a good choice and there are many flavours.

For those following this thread, I have tried some different options and made my choice. I used to like Teamviewer for Windows-Windows but the current free version that works with Android keeps throwing crap up on the screen that has to be closed. I also had to keep clicking through stuff every time I wanted to take control of the Windows PC. I got fed up and uninstalled it.

Chrome was a bit of a pain to set up and I didn't like having to invite Google into my entire life in order to use it, so I settled on TightVNC, which works well and can be set for single-click access. The Remote Ripple mouse takes getting used to and the recommended Mirage driver hosed my Win 7 system, but after I got rid of it and figured out how to use the mouse everything worked as promised. It is not as easy or intuitive as the Anydesk Windows RD on my notebook, and I wish I could lock the Windows image into place because I keep forgetting that the touch screen doesn't work with this and I keep sweeping the Windows screen out of sight, but it is pretty good considering the differences between Android and Windows. I will probably mainly stick with my Windows notebook for remote access, but if Android is the only option, TightVNC is the way to go. It works well and provides the needed control.

I remote into my windows machines quite regularly from my android phone.

I use the Microsoft rdp android client, it is free and works perfectly well and is super simple.

The Windows computer I use it with does not have the RD function. I think only professional versions have that.

Ahh well that is annoying.  Sounds like you have a work around sorted though.

Just a thought, When you say remote control do you require remote screen viewing or just controlling the actual PC as is while it is still in view like a media center or something along those lines?

Either way would work. I have developed a fairly sophisticated system using my Harmony remote control to operate the media PC but for some things it is easier to have a close-up view, which the notebook or tablet provide. At the same time, there are other things, such as file operations, that work much better with a full keyboard and mouse or trackpad. So the ideal situation is the best of both worlds, a small notebook or tablet with keyboard and mouse functions as well as a screen that I can view and operate from the couch, but I don't really need either. It is just a matter of added convenience.
