You can use the exchange?  I am just using an old NZ ISP pop/smtp account.  Just a family desktop PC here.  No server.

When it was working, I have simply just used a different calendar.  I used my Outlook.com calendar with the "Outlook Hotmail Connector" on the desktop to align that to Outlook.com

Yep, you can use exchange.

I use Outlook 2010 on my laptop. I have an Xtra account that I use with POP and I have another account which uses a domain name for a business we have, (the email address is xyz@domain.co.nz) this account was originally hosted on Windows Live which has morphed into Outlook Mail. One reason for running this account in this manner was for the ability to sync a calendar. Originally we couldn't have our emails with a calendar sync feature hosted by our website hosting company.

With the recent changes to the Outlook servers this account stopped working in my laptop but continued to work on my mobile devices.  After much dicking around I got it working again. In the end I had to create an alias for the account that used an Oulook.com email address. I did this thru the web access portal of Outlook.com. Once I had created the alias I was able to use the auto configure option in Outlook 2010 to add a new account. Note: I had deleted the account in Outlook 2010 prior to this.

All the information I read told me to remove or disable Hotmail connector prior to re adding the account.

Hope this makes sense.

Microsoft don't want you to use custom domains on the free Outlook.com service anymore, they want you to move it to Office 365.

You have found a workaround by creating an @outlook.com alias on the account and using that to do the login for the Exchange setup.

If you are looking for free custom domain name email hosting have a look at Zoho Mail https://www.zoho.com/mail/

Thanks for that.  MS Exchange now working.

Inside Outlook desktop I have my "Personal Calendar" and my "Outlook.com Calendar".  I am using a utility which anything on my "Personal Calendar" is updated to my Google Calendar.  Is there a way to combine this to my Outlook.com?  Curently I have a personal calendar (links to Google) and a separate Outlook.com calendar.  Anything made to my Outlook.com calendar on my PC only syncs to the website Outlook.com and my phone (with the Outlook app).  Google is left out.

I seem to have a workaround now.

Using "outlook google calendar sync" it can pick up my default calendar as "my outlook.com one" and sync it to Google online.  And because it is my Outlook.com calender inside MS Outlook 2010 syncs it online too.

I understand outlook.com premium is being trialled at the moment, this will likely support domains
