I have one email account hosted on Outlook.com. I also use the calendar on this account for all of my appointments etc and sync across several devices.

The account works on my mobile devices but I have been getting synchronising errors since last Tuesday on Outlook 2010 on my laptop. I don't get nay emails or calendar events.

I'm fairly certain the problem is to do with Microsoft migrating their servers.

If I set up an IMAP account I can get the emails but no calendar events.

I've done a bit of Googling but have been unable to find a way to sync the calendar. Apparently Outlook Hotmail Connector no longer works with the new set up Microsoft is using. I've tried disabling this and following the instructions I've found online, most of which seem to think the auto set up function should work, but it doesn't.

I've tried various ways of setting up the Microsoft Exchange option but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I remember getting an e-mail from them saying outlook 2010 would stop working with outlook.com, to fix you just need to remove the account from outlook then re-add it

I've removed it and re added it. I can re add using IMAP but I'm not getting the Outlook.com calendar on my laptop.

If I try to add the account using the Microsoft Exchange option with Outlook running I get an error saying it cannot be added with Outlook running. If I close Outlook and go in through Control Panel I get part way through and then get an error saying Outlook needs to be connected. Can't get to install using Microsoft Exchange either way.

The calendar sync is one of the reasons I use this account.

When I added the new account in Outlook the Auto Account Setup did it automatically after I entered the email address and password - I didn't have to choose the type of service.

Failing that you could try http://www.colorado.edu/oit/tutorial/office-365-outlook-windows-manual-exchange-configuration.

The type is Microsoft Exchange Server, not IMAP.

Try as I might I cannot get the Microsoft Exchange option to work. This appears to be the only option that supports calendar syncing.

I can get IMAP to work but every time I try to set up the Exchange option it fails.

The auto set up option fails on both the encrypted and unecrypted methods. Manual set up for Exchange fails from both within Outlook saying it cannot be set up with Outlook running and when I set up via Control Panel I get part way thru then it fails and displays a message saying Outlook needs to be on line.

The more I dig the more it seems Outlook 2010 is no longer fully supported when it comes to Outlook.com/Outlook Mail. Microsoft don't specifically say it's not supported (like they do for Outlook 2003) and as such you are lead to believe it is, BUT they never show a set up solution that encompasses Exchange or the syncing of calendars. A case of what they don't tell you being more important than what they do tell you.

If anyone has a solution that gets Outlook 2010 syncing mail and calendar entries with Outlook Mail/Outlook.com I'd love to hear about it.

have you installed the Outlook2010 update/patch (supposedly fixes this issue)
have you also uninstalled any old MS (hotmail,live,O.com etc) connector addons, disabled/removed any outlook com addons ?

have a look on MS's forum, looks like others are also having issues

I'm not sure what update/patch you are referring to. Though looking at the installed updates on my laptop the latest update for Outlook was KB2760779 on 13/10/16, the one prior to that was KB3115426 on 6/8/16. I think my version of Outlook is up to date and when I do a Windows update check I'm told everything is up to date.

The only active add-ins are Microsoft Exchange add-in, Microsoft Outlook Social Connector, Microsoft Share Point Server Colleague Import add-in, OneNote Notes about Outlook Items.

I've found the same search results as you have listed, none so far has shed any light in the issue, this question explains exactly my problem.

Like the originator of this question, the emails and calendar events update normally on my mobile devices BUT do not work on Outlook 2010. I have my own domain email routed via Outlook.com. I do not have a primary email as xyz@outloook.com. I don't know that I can even add such an email address, besides as the originator of the question in the link above says, as the account works on the mobile devices why should there be a need to make changes at the Outlook.com end when the problem appears to be with Outlook 2010.

The replies from Microsoft don't address the issue. Ho hum.

In desperation I took a punt and made a new alias with an @outlook.com address and made this my primary alias and then set up the account again from inside Outlook 2010 and the automatic set up worked. The only issue is the account now shows in Outlook 2010 as xyz@outlook.com even though the emails are for the xyz@domain.co.nz. The calendar is also working and there's not an excessively long synchronising time each time you start up Outlook 2010.

The mobile devices seem to still work OK.

It would be nice to have an explanation as to why/how there is a need to change the alias, when other devices not running Outlook 2010 don't requires this mucking around..

Do you mean your domain.co.nz is hosted at Outlook.com? Or is your email service at domain.co.nz simply forwarding your messages to Outlook.com? I didn't think you could do the former unless you have an Office 365 business account, not yet anyway.

I had this problem of Outlook.com not syncing on Outlook 2010 and 2016 .. I deleted the account from the Outlook 2010 / 2016 client and then rebuilt it again. It swapped from Activesync to Exchange server and the problem went away. Had this on 3 different Outlook. com accounts over the past few months..

This account goes back several years and was set up under Windows Live in the days where you could have several email accounts with an @domain.co.xx address hosted at a Windows Live account. This is a legacy account as Microsoft no longer offer this service. The domain is hosted locally and we don't use an email server at domain.co.nz

I understand oulook no longer supports activesync to exchange servers (its only used for 3rd part products) which I think is what outlook.com runs as its backend. I think the correct way is to use the autodiscover service.

I've noticed this too. I use Outlook less now since Gmail pops my ISP email (Outlook.com also pops it too but google is so convenient with other services) but when I write an email properly it is still Outlook. The last emails I seems to have are about 2 weeks ago. I have removed the Outlook.com account and re-add it, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook Hotmail Connector and then re-create the Outlook.com addy to no avail ... I have also deleted the .OST file. I'm using 2010. Maybe Office 365 would work.

I have just been using SynqYa to sync my Outlook desktop (2010) to Google Calendar.

Just a related question:

With desktop Outlook. If one wants to sync the calendar does it need to have a separate calendar? I see that Outlook can publish calendars (so from your old NZ ISP email calendar to wherever else) but how do you go from an Outlook / Google web calendar to a old NZ ISP Outlook desktop? In the good old days you attach your smartphone via a USB cable and run the suite software (with Outlook desktop) as late as the Nokia's but also the LG Optimus G1 but the G3 now seems come without this software.

You can use the exchange? I am just using an old NZ ISP pop/smtp account. Just a family desktop PC here. No server.

When it was working, I have simply just used a different calendar. I used my Outlook.com calendar with the "Outlook Hotmail Connector" on the desktop to align that to Outlook.com
