If they are using hid drivers to communicate with something else, then there is a chance that some other software for hid stuff may be messing it up. Anything like mouse configuration software or similar running on the computer?

A while back I had a friend with similar problem using a USB VoIP webcam/mic device ... worked on another computer and a laptop, but refused to work on main desktop.  We tried all the usual things ranging across what has been suggested here and also waiving chicken entrails over it, but no go after many hours of toil.

Obtained a different brand device, and away it flew right from the start ... in the laps of the Gods, as they say? innocent

Unfortunately I am unaware of another brand of device. It is quite specialised. I need to find a way to make it work.

An update on my problem.

I found some information suggesting running "msconfig" and choosing "Selective Start Up" and only choosing "Load System Services".

When I do this the device works. smile

Now it's just a matter of working through the "stopped services" to see which one is causing my problem. A job for another day.

Following up from last nights discovery. By a process of elimination I found I found the culprit. It was the Accuweather app that came pre-installed on my laptop. It was one of the last things I would have suspected.

It was set up to auto start when the laptop booted up. With it disabled and all the other start up items re-enabled the device connects to the app and downloads just as it's supposed to do.

Thanks for all the tips.
