Good information. That indicates the phone is okay. What kind of cable are you using? Have you tried more than one USB port? You said it plays a tune when you unplug it and replug it. If so, that means the computer is seeing it. I have had trouble with external drives that the USB port could not supply enough power to. I doubt that would be an issue here but it is another thing to check. If you have another computer that works at all, try connecting the camera to that just to see what happens.

I'm using a standard USB cable to connect.

I've tried the cable in all three USB sockets in the laptop.

The laptop I'm using is an Acer.

I got a borrowed HP laptop here, also running Win 10. I'm trying to get the camera to operate on it. Nothing so far.

This is just more typical Windows BS. I don't have the same camera as you, but I do also have an Acer laptop running Win 10 and I am getting exactly the same thing you are. The camera pieps when I plug it in, but Windows doesn't register it at all. Since this camera works fine on Win 7, which I normally use for this kind of thing for exactly this reason, I know the issue is some kind of Windows 10 crap. It sure wouldn't be the first time.

It is getting late for me but I will figure out what the problem is tomorrow and let you know. Whatever is causing this is not a big deal, just another Microsoft hamster wheel to go around and around in.

Sorry, my mistake. It is working correctly on my computer. I was using the wrong cable. When I plug it in I hear it peep after a few moments and the camera name pops up in the left column under 'This PC'. If you click on 'This PC' you should see the camera under 'Devices and Drives' in the right column. I also checked Disk Management, but it doesn't show up there. I'm not sure why. It also occurs to me that if the camera makes a sound, that may only be an indication that it is getting power from the USB port. It doesn't necessarily mean that it is making a data connection.

If you can't get your camera to work on two different computers, then I think there must be a problem with the camera or the cable. I can't think of anything else.

If I open 'This PC' the only under 'Devices and Drives' is the C: drive.

Tried it with a couple of different USB cables. The camera phone seems to take pics fine. I guess it's PoS Windows not recognising old gadgets. But why the hell did it say it was installing a driver for the phone? Jesus.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I have had issues like this in the past with different cameras but I was always able to make them work after some fiddling. It seems that your camera is not being recognised by Windows at all, which is why you see nothing under 'This PC', but without actually having it in front of me, there isn't much I can do. It probably doesn't help that it is actually an old phone.

Unplug the phone

Right Click the bottom left 4 squares

Select Device Manager from menu

Expand 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' and expand if you can also see ''Universal Serial Bus devices'

Plug in Phone

See if a new Device pops in either of the 2 expanded boxes above or a new one like 'Portable Devices'

If one does then something is detected but out of date.

Right click that new device and click 'Update Driver' try 'Search Automatically for updated Driver'

This may find the right one and fix the issue.
