Not really.

Anything that doesn't run Windows 11, shouldn't really be entering the second hand market (8th gen is now 4 years old), it should already be second hand..

Windows 10 is supported (currently until 2024), so they are supported for a decent amount of life.

@xpd for example the "Gaming" PC you're selling is now 7-8 years old (noting you're now selling it third hand).

Going to be a lot of PCs going to the dump in that case.  I have a two year old HP laptop that does comply to Win 11.  CPU.

What's the model of your laptop?
Seems unusual for a two year old laptop to ship at that time with 3 year old cpus...

CPU: AMD 5900x | RAM: GSKILL Trident Z Neo RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC-32-GB | MB:  Asus X570-E | GFX: EVGA FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080Ti| Monitor: LG 27GL850-B 2560x1440

You will receive updates to Win 11 but not any feature updates.  I'm in that situation with an old 10 year old PC that I installed Win 11 on and have been booted out of the  Insider Program but am still receiving updates.

Nope , not on final Public release versions . Insider version may be different , for now.

My Dell 3060 arrived today and it passes the win 11 requirements with flying colours! Pretty neat little machine, actuality.

HP Elitebook 850 G3 with 6th gen Intel processor (so doesn't comply) was still being sold at beginning of 2019. I have one.

Agree, it wont be support, so best to upgrade if you want to be on Win 11, otherwise as noted above, there's plenty more life left in Windows 10.

Now is not at all a good time to be buying a new PC (Prices are very high), so wouldn't suggest you buy it just for windows 11.

If you don't need a GPU it's fine. GPUs on the other hand...

I went with Alienware R10.  Price was right and got access to newer video cards for video editing.
* Have had to replace cooling fans, upgrade RAM and seak additional heatsink parts for the VRM chips, but now it's all together it's humming cool and silent.

(*Packages offered by Dell in NZ were not configurable, you could only buy from a extremely small range of prebuilt configurations)

I think you underestimate how many people game on older gear. Intel were basically stagnant for years, heaps of people still use pre 8th gen CPU's. I genuinely cannot think of anything Microsoft has ever done to drive people away from PC gaming more than this one thing.

And how long most small businesses keep PC's before replacing them . Even to the point of PCs being barely usuable (slow) & costing them $ in wasted time .
However, they are pretty much worthless by that stage & go to the recyclers when replaced .

Added to this though is supply problems recently, so expect businesses to keep current stock a bit longer than maybe a previous 4 year renewal cycle.

Checked and my work PC doesn't qualify for Windows 11.  It's a 4 year old HP desktop and fails on the CPU requirements.

(Although there is some discussion around the possibility of enabling some features that are rquired but currently off, though this sounds stupid if real given the installer should look and adjust for this).\

10 is supported for quite some time, so it's a case of ensuring future replacements are up to spec, rather than a mass update straight away today that we've seen in previous releases.

My Alienware R10 has been updated today and is working fine.  Barely any difference intially, but application windows are rouinde and it looks more like a Mac now.
