Maybe.
Microsoft etc just rank your arguing with the Ai on its inaccuracies as 'engaugement'. :-)
So the system promotes ever more inaccurate and argumentative Ai models.
Ones that are precise, accurate get pruned out.
You get your answer. go away, no engagement.

Natural selection.

Oh another thought,
Seeing data on you is so valuable. What is paying the bills.
It would be better from a Microsoft, Google, Facebook etc view.
That the Ai is spending more time evaluating your responses, rather than on its response.

It seems to like to change the subject to general chat away from what you were wanting.

This is gibberish nonsense.

Reminds me of this comment from a user: https://old.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/16stmg5/windows_11_22h2_moment_4_update_megathread/k2hnrtk/

"here's the gist: it hallucinates, it lies, then it changes the subject. I basically had an argument about mangoes with my operating system today. Is this the future?"

Personally, my Operating System is an area of computing I would prefer to be deterministic rather than probabilisitic.

I probably sound like an AI zealot or something, but I'm not.  I just think the criticisms of something inherently new and relatively unknown are somewhat entitled. I am fully supportive of the problems that hallucinations or just straight forward wrongness can bring.  But I also accept that this stuff won't get better without people using it, and they're acknowledging the limitations front-and-centre in their warnings.  What else do you want?

What I would like to see is the hype to be toned down. Making it an operating system feature that is turned on by default and still giving wrong information and advice is dangerous.

The very least would be to make it off by default and give big warnings before turning it on.

If you can't rely on something as simple as "what is the time now?" then anything else should be assumed to be incorrect.

People are pushing AI like people pushed metaverse, cryptocurrencies and NFTs but this is something that can significantly alter lives in a much bigger scale.

Again, I don't quite agree with your points, but I understand them.  I don't see it as comparable to metaverse or crypto or NFTs.  Those things had almost zero interest from Joe Computer User.  This is a very different situation with high public interest.  Those other examples were a niche occupied by a niche.

All the more reason for it to be made clear about its inaccuracies. Co Pilot doesn't have any warnings that basic information could be wrong.

Yes, it does, I provided a screenshot yesterday, earlier in this thread.

None of the Co-Pilots on any of my three computers, give that warning.

If your product, can't tell a user what time it is, which is a fundamental things, it's not ready for release.

This is a thread about desktop copilot integration, i.e. the copilot flyout. is that what you're referring to?  Looks fine to me across three computers with the desktop copilot feature available.  One logged in as Enterprise (above), and 2 logged in as personal accounts.  If the issue is consistency of the warning, I can agree with that.  It should be front and centre anywhere this AI is accessed.

Windows has a myriad of other issues that seem more important than this. Like the fact it's 2023 and you still have to end Outlook from Task Manager half the time, etc.

I've used the Windows 11 Copilot flyout a number of times quite successfully.  I find it to be a helpful addition, but as a techie I'm well aware that it is far from perfect.  After reading this thread I had to try asking for the time and got this disaster a couple of minutes ago:

The time in Auckland, New Zealand is 12:54 PM on Monday, November 20, 2023. The time zone is GMT+13:00.
