Work around steps for anyone that needs them

  1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
  2. Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
  3. Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.
  4. Boot the host normally.

Just confirming this is an official fix from CS. I have checked the CS website and it is bona fide

rscole86: BBC have just climbed out of bed and are reporting rail outages as well as the London Stock Exchange.

From British Rail

"Description

There are currently widespread I.T issues across the entire network. I.T teams are actively investigating to determine the root cause of the problem.

As a result, some train operators are unable to access driver diagrams at certain locations, leading to potential short-notice train cancellations. Additionally, other key systems, including real-time customer information platforms, are also affected."

NZ will escape lightly as we have finished business for the Week,
But It looks like Friday could be hell in the UK/Europe, and no doubt US IT engineers are working their butts off to get it fixed before the sun gets across the pond to them...

In Sydney, all Virgin Airlines flights into and out of the city were cancelled.

“We have no ability to get flight plans,” a staff member said over the PA at the Virgin Australia lounge.

“The airline has put a stop on in-and-out flights, so it’s a complete ground stop; there’s no flights coming in and there’s no flights going out.

Does that work if Bitlocker is enabled on the machine though?

"One tech expert has blamed the issue on security firm CrowdStrike putting out "a bad update, which is presently nuking every machine that takes it".

Technology expert Troy Hunt told Australia's 7News it could be "quite some time" to get the affected computers operating again."

Not quite, those US airlines are pausing all their flights globally,  in flight services continue to destinations, but no more take off
