freitasm: According to the Windows Blog the MSDN and Technet releases are confirmed for 30th April, with general availability on 5th May.

What's your evidence of that? Well implemented PKI procedures will make it nigh impossible to circumvent a digital signature.

Satch: I guess I do care if it is infested, but the risks are low. Therefore I'm willing to give it a chance.

Plus I'm getting my tonsils out on Wednesday so will be lying low in pain for the next couple of weeks. I don't know if I'll be up to messing around with this sort of stuff in the state I'll be in...

Couple of weeks!? I was in hospital for 2 days, and business as normal after another 3 days at home with nothing more than a bit of a sore throat. You'll be fine as long as ya lay off crunchy food.

I'd hold off on this and wait for the "official" RC which is so close it's not worth the waste of 2.5GB of additional bandwidth anyway. Hopefully they reverse whatever they did in 7068 that broke VirtualBox's networking.

It's nice to not hear a horror story for a change! :)

The surgeon told me that I'll be down for 10 days and not to go to work during that time. I'll also be funked up on pain relief so probably won't be too useful at work anyway. Plus this is my holiday this year...

Here we go:

Just a warning for anyone downloading the new RC builds of windows 7. Quiet a lot of the downloads have a trojan inbedded in the setup EXE. This should not be an issue if you booted from the DVD and installed, but if you upgraded it may have infected you.

How to get rid:

Extract contents of disk to hard disk then:

The Setup EXE is actually a container, it appears to be a self-extracting EXE. There are 2 files inside, Setup.exe and codec.exe

Codec.exe is the trojan. Extract setup.exe, and then delete the original. The setup.exe inside the container is actually the real install EXE, and I have verified it is clean, and that there are no other infected files on the disk. Then put the real setup.exe into the root of the folder, and build a bootable ISO with vLite.

So if you boot from the DVD and install it should be ok. If you upgrade using the setup.exe your system is owned. In either case, fool if you downloaded and didn't check the MD5.

I have a small problem i have downloaded the win 7 7100 Rc as a DVD ISO. I put it in drive it boots off disk it picked a spot to Install. Disk 0 was highlighted as logical. I said installe a new copy or advanced. It says a file windows old would be built. The program was installing and said it was done. When i turn on my computer. i get a black screen with windows 7100 evaluation copy lower right corner of mointor. My machine is showing a 3 boot system (i took a 10 min peek at Linux Mint) . It was not for me. So i clicked on option to load previous windows setup. It took me back to Linux. What would you suggest Thanks all.

Downloading RC1 from Technet now, turns out the MD5 from the torrents are the same as the Technet/MSDN downloads.

I will download the 'leaked' copy myself, knowing the risks...so that I can try it over the weekend, have some fun.

That said, once its been released officially on the 5th, I will then download it again and wipe the previous install and file.

Everything is loading super fast now...even IE!

The difference in performance is amazing

I have yet to play too much, but I do notice the 'Movies' folder in Meia Center still has to load the files everytime, although its now way way, way faster, actually usable...
But I do not see any sypnosis information yet, no cover art etc....hmmmm
And also the Media Center keys on my remote and keyboard do not work...stll not implemented, or an issue there?

But the performance improvement is so dramatic, I may now be ready to ditch Vista all together (was going to wait for it to be offically released to reatil)

I had some problems with Freeview HD not playing at all, while on Beta 7000 it worked fine. Also on a laptop it wouldn't load the video drivers that Beta 7000 recognised fine...

What's your experience?

yup i'll be waiting for the public release on may 5th but as an aside i am running a copy gotten from the TPB version 7077 which was first put on a non networked pc then scanned using Avast on a usb stick and several other Malware scanners aswell and only when i was satisfied that it was indeed as clean as far as i could see did i use it to install on my main pc and so far so good i realy like win7 it has the speed of xp and the looks of vista without having to run windowblinds or some other resource sucking theme changer

Can't help ya with either of those...

My video drivers seem to work fine, although I am testing this only on my HTPC.

And at this point, I only have satellite, have yet to purchase a terristrial aerial for HD, but I will...especially since I have a tuner that does it all, and allows 4 tuners at once.
