Any way to install the anniversary update without updating drivers?

There are a few driver backup applications around, you could use them to backup your drivers and then restore them after updating or when needed.

That's my plan, if negative response to the original question ... thanks ... wasn't sure backup and restore would work but that would be last resort.

On the off chance, can't back up the driver using windows itself can i?

gzt: driver rollback button.

Yeah not sure if that will work, it never used to, and I can't re-update for some reason. WU says no update available, and the update tool i downloaded wanted to update to 14xx which is not the 160x ... i'm sure it will reappear ... will try the button and failing that, the driver backup-restore ...

I use Autohotkey which lets me reprogram keys any way I like

hellonearthisman: The biggest issues I have had with win10 are:

Last big grumble is the hijacking of hotkeys. I used to use winkey+v to access my clipboard manager, but MS has take all the win+keys for their own apps, even if that app is removed the hotkey is locked and can't be used by other applications
btw I now use win+shift+v for the clipboard manage but it uses two hands and not one to do.

The file association is a pain too but it can mostly be worked around. Start menu pinned applications sometimes don't have an icon correct ie google keep but a work around fixes than.

I don't look at my network settings so could have that issue too.

Still there are a few really good things too so I will keep using win10 and hope MS fix these little things.

Just expanding on that. Some drivers are very simple. Others make configuration changes all over the place. It would be nice if the rollback captured all those. It is something I have not looked at closely. So take your pick there.

Your earlier assertion that turning off driver update has no effect for the anniversary update surprises me, but maybe the type of driver can explain something of what is happening there.

Missing words, wrong meaning. In part update:

Some driver installs are very simple. Some driver installs make configuration changes all over the place.

That's better ; ).

Digital sound processing software/driver called "MaxxAudio Pro" that was included in the laptop. But the driver update gives a poorly functioning version (MaxxAudio 3), and the whole internet has emailed Dell to give us a link to the original driver/software but they won't.

ANyway as I said I have backed it up. Not sure if it will "restore" easily.

The Anniversary updates makes Cortana a requirement nad stops you turning it off. There are registry and gpedit hacks but for the majority of users it is more than they can do.

This is bad news for three reasons:

1 - Cortana isn't available for every area - so why would i want it as it's still not NZ ready.

2- Cortana sends info to Ms that some of us consider a breach of privacy. Now it's turned on with option to reverse that from MS

3- Windows 10 is a performance dog and cortana and other search functionality is just part of that.

This used to work but not so much now - there is a disable button missing.

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-disable-cortana-in-windows-10-remove-your-personal-data-summary-3633483/

Now it looks like this:

http://www.howtogeek.com/265027/how-to-disable-cortana-in-windows-10/

grrr!!!! now you have to pay for windows 10 and MS still steals your info with no option to opt out now.

Well i discovered a feature. If you go back to the previous OS after updating to anniversary edition, it does something over 5 secs and you're back to th your exact previous OS with no way updating to the anniversary version.

This weeks cumulated update is being a pain. I have 3 of 5 machines stuck at 45% downloading. Two machines zipped through fine and I have the others set to also pick up updates from other machines on the network.

The stuck ones have been on 45% since yesterday AM. I have stopped and startedthe Windows update service in cmd and this has made no difference.

Same here. Left my laptop on overnight and it was still on 45% this morning.
