chiefie: The automated upgrade installation yesterday failed numerous times for me. And I had to use the Download Tool and even when running Download Tool with "Upgrade this OS" it gave "Something happened" error.

I opted to make ISO and mount the ISO and performed upgrade that way. It appeared the upgrade error that stopped/failed numerous times could be the fact that my Windows 8.1 Pro had Media Centre installed as well as cannot attained a confirmation from me that it will be removed in Windows 10.

*rolleyes*

there is no prompt about Media Center so I think its something else

When I did ISO upgrade, I did get the prompt to advise me that Media Center will be removed and I have to "confirm".

Odd. When I change from C to F it changes from kph to mph and vice versa.

Thats what i thought would happen, but my wind stays as mph and visibility stays in miles

Found a fix, Had to turn live tile off in start menu, opened app went from C to F then back to C, now displaying correctly only thing now is live tile won't turn back on in start menu.
If i change to F again i can turn live tile back on then change to C and still get MPH
Strange but i can live with that

I have two issues on a clean install on my surface pro - the first was with the account username being truncated to 5 characters (which can be fixed straight after the install)

The other one, is on Windows 8.1 when I plugged in my iPhone via USB with tethering enabled, it switched from a Wifi connection to a fixed connection.  In Windows 10, this no longer works (it recognises the phone is attached but does nothing).

I've got that same error as well a few times...

- Have cleared out the downloads folder a couple of times
- Reservation flag still there
- Has done the ~6Gbps download twice now
- i7, 16GB, Nvidia card, nothing else special
- All updates applied, all updates set to automatic

Frustrating.

Try use the Download Tool and run it and upgrade it that way - if it can't upgrade (giving "Something happened" error) then create ISO file, mount the ISO and upgrade. I had to do it that way and works just as well.

I have confidence that would work but I also would like to know why it's clearly failing for some people and causing redownloads to happen. I just watched our Akamai traffic increase by 50% (which is a STAGGERING increase in traffic) due to the Win10 launch and I would really like to know why it's not working.

Cheers - N

Sounds like a DNS or CDN issue... I know a guy who may be able to help tongue-out

Seriously though, what's Windows 10 done to the usage graphs across the network?

Fred99: From W7 home.  $Windows.~BT folder is around 5.94GB, no prompts, nothing's changed - but in the background windows update keeps trying something which keeps failing:

Error details:

Upgrade to Windows 10 Home

Installation date: ‎30/‎07/‎2015 8:16 a.m.

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80240020

Update type: Important

Install the next version of Windows.

I was kind of keen to install, to see if some image processing software (now unsupported) would run under win10.  However, I have an enterprise edition of W7u from which I will do a clean install on this machine - when I get around to it - as I don't think I want W10 home edition as the OS on this machine, mainly because of limitations on update scheduling.

Do you have Media Centre? Do you have sufficient HDD space on the C: for ugprade?

Yes to media centre, and yes, over 300 GB free space on a 500 GB SSD.
I guess I need to remove media centre - had to think about that, as I had to look to see if it was installed, as I never use it anyway.

Media centre removed, nothing happened (but it tried another update - with same fail message after Media Centre was removed), but this is a little odd in a back to the future kind of way.  PC clock is correct, and in correct time zone ((UTC+12:00) Auckland, Wellington.
The compatibility check app was "last run" in 4 hours time!

Those with Windows Media Center will also get Windows DVD Player App - which I do, as I did not remove the feature during the ISO upgrade.

Makes you wonder why they bother with a DVD player option given the number of alternatives out there.

setup/upgrade removes the MCE feature, but Windows Store knows you had it installed so the DVD player is free for you

Huge increase on Akamai but we have sufficient overhead to cover it all so no impact on international traffic or other Akamai traffic for us. Our Akamai nodes are sufficiently well distributed around the country that's there's been no impact to core network either.

It's a massive traffic hike to be clear, but we have a truly astronomical level of CDN capacity at the moment.
