I think if you have a stuck download you need to stop the MS service delete the download folder and restart service. Google is your friend

One of the real problems I have found with the update is that Microsoft have forced Driver Signing Certification which is fine if you are upgrading from original windows 10 but I had to install the anniversary edition from scratch and ran into driver signing. The biggest problem with this so far is that AOMEI Backup can not be installed anymore as their drivers have not been certified by MS. I am sure they will get certification but not till next version which could be some time.

Right Pain. I wanted to restore an image to my laptop and MS say no way.

hellonearthisman: Download it manually: http://www.ghacks.net/2016/09/14/kb3189866-stuck-at-45-or-95-install-it-manually-instead/

Excellent - worked a treat. Thank you for that link - I had numerous attempts last night which all show a failed when they actually got past the 45%, but this link solved all those issues.  Reconfiguring appeared to take a lot longer on my 64=bit machine than the same update did on a 32-bit HP.

But that is another story - the HP continues to start with only a black screen - no cursors, no response to F2 or F8 or F9.  After numerous attempts a few nights ago I did get it to burst into life and managed to install the anniversary update and the raft of cumulative updates following, but last night the only remaining update was KB3189866 - got that installed and now can only get a black screen again

Just stopped the update service, downloaded from the catalogue and installed. No need to delete anything from distribution. On reboot the windows update service restarts

Re: KB3189866.

According to this thread <http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-start/the-stub-received-bad-data/f4829753-484e-4cf8-b123-6caf2422d17b> you may need to be looking into downloading and applying the KB3189866 fix manually (i.e. download and apply outside of "Windows Update") as apparently there are bugs in Windows 10 build 1607 (Anniversary update) which prevent Windows Update from working.

I've certainly been banging my head against this for a few days.

The other symptom on the issue is the message "the stub received bad data" intermittently when trying to run anything as "Administrator", hence the subject line of that particular thread.

EDIT: Note that the "stub received bad data" is an intermittent issue

I had that update stuck on 45% on my laptop, very annoying. I even reset it and it still would not download. Wish I hadn't now as it didn't work and now I have to reinstall everything. Must be an issue on MS update servers. I solved it by downloading the update and manually installing it.

Yes, don't mess around with stuck updates. Download (approx 400K) and run. Works like a charm.

First Windows Catalog and EMET don't like each other. EMET prevents the ActiveX control from running. So I followed the link to the direct download and ten seconds later had it installing.

Laptop was still stuck in 45% after 24 hours...

Since the anniversary update I've had problems with windows that are maximised overlapping the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop.  Notice this with the netflix app, and RDP on occasion.. such that you see the local machine taskbar and not the remote machine taskbar.

Seems a bit random but it just started recently.

The fix is to set the autohide option on the taskbar, but annoying.

I have had weird taskbar not showing issues all along with it, seems to be opposite of yours. Often when I have a RDP fullscreen on the main monitor, clicking onto apps on the other ones will not bring the local taskbar to the front, which it always did on 7. Even clicking the desktop on 7 would bring it infront of the fullscreen one

People always seemed to blame it on that I have taskbar only on one monitor, but I cant stand seeing it on all of them.

Im getting hugely sick of windows 10 on my laptop downloading a heap of stuff (80mb+) each time i connect to the internet (im roaming and im connecting to the hotspot on my phone)

i have the wifi connection setup as a metered connection yet the process "Service Host: Local System" unsure what exact service it is as i don't have time to waste finding out as its downloading at 2.4MB/s

See the image below for the graph from Networx (internet connection monitor)

This is complete and utter BS as its set as a metered connection so windows shouldn't be downloading anything at all. Its pretty much blown through all my roaming data in the first 2 days before i realised what was happening

Answering the original question in this thread, I think with Anniversary Update Windows 10 finally got to the point where it's an actual improvement over the terrible Windows 8. Except for having to open a window to connect to a VPN which could be done from the connection list in Windows 7. But I think Microsoft will never fix this.

Only enable the metered network when you plan to use it I guess.

You should be able to check app data usage:
