Also, forgot to mention. Can't believe that AdBlocker on EDGE is still broken - the whole storage thing. And don't tell me to fix that Microsoft needs a new OS release - the whole idea of EDGE is that it's an app...

hellonearthisman:

Only enable the metered network when you plan to use it I guess.

its permanently enabled as a metered connection, every time i connected its enabled. so nothing to do with that.

You should be able to check app data usage:

e.g.

thanks but its not an app doing it is a windows process

its one of these 17 thats highlighted thats doing it, grouped under "service host: local system"

cant tell which one because it doesnt breakdown the network usage by sub service only by the parent one.

Have you tried stopping the services you dont need like windows update and BITS? Those would be the first 2 I would assume are stuffing up.

I see Insiders are receiving a new release that fixes the terrible Edge performance when running some sites including Facebook, Outlook and Tweetdeck. I mentioned how Tweetdeck on Edge was a dog but got the "no problem here" treatment when I first mentioned it.

i don't think its actually downloading the updates as i have never been asked to restart or anything but i do notice there is a list of updates waiting to install. so its been checking at some point

Edge is an app, its just a special app that can't be updated outside of a Feature Update.  But this is just currently, we will be able to update Edge outside of an OS Feature Update.

I'm starting to run into issues that are annoying me. Starting to contemplate downgrading.

First issue, whenever my PC has been locked for any extended period of time, after I hit CAD and login again, windows just sits on a blue background with spinning white dotted circle.

Second issue, no app store apps have worked for some time. They either wont launch, or launch then immediately close. Tried various tricks from google but to no avail. Wouldn't be a pain if they hadn't made most of the built in apps UWP apps, and made it so constantly resets the file associations back to the bloody UWP apps.

Windows service host can and usually does host 3rd party programs. It is a bit early to pin this one on the operating system.

Constantly resetting file associations is my biggest bugbear. In particular resetting .htm from Chrome back to Edge and then complaining it can't open the file from a mapped drive. Similar with PDF's. For some reason HTML can be associated to another application but HTM is locked to edge. Unfortunately our authoring tool outputs in htm. Edge would be next on the list to uninstall if i could find a way. I am about to try renaming the executable to see if that will work.

Notifications don't work with the taskbar on auto-hide. When the taskbar slides out when you need it, you get all the notifications since it last appeared. Or today a filezilla notification pending stopped the taskbar from appearing altogether until I could coax it to display the notification and then it was back to normal.

It is also forgetting saved passwords periodically, for SQL Server Management Studio as one example.

These are all post Anniversary update as these issues did not occur prior to that.

I use Windows 10 about 70 hours a week since release. Had a few frustrations but to be honest windows 7 wasn't any different. After about 2 months I forgot windows 7 even existed.

Sometimes mine is taking forever to detect USB hardware is connected. I switch my hub with keyboard and mouse etc off when not using the PC since they have stupid lights on them which go to default when the computer is locked. Usually turn the hub and monitors on and all is good straight away, but since the update it has often taken 30-40 seconds to work.

I mostly love win10. There are some things that are really getting on my nerves though.

My biggest annoyance is updates resetting settings and preferences. In particular, turning off file sharing (happened again today on my htpc) and setting edge as the default browser.

Yeah, this resetting of defaults is a huge annoyance. That and scrolling on my laptop touchpad (Synaptics) no longer works since the anniversary update. Software is fully up-to-date and a registry 'fix' I found on the internet hasn't worked for me. Looks like I'll have to get a USB mouse from somewhere...

My desktop experiences system freezes just as much as ever, sometimes it won't even complete the logon process without freezing. Makes the machine pretty much a heap of useless junk. On the bright side, I use Microsoft far less than I used to. I've taken pains over the years to ensure the household remains Apple free, and will start working towards becoming Microsoft free path in the coming year.
