Hmm, clarifying that Windows 9 is not a service pack, and not denying that there is a Windows 9. Hmm...

It would be one way for MS to acknowledge they didn't get Windows 8 "quite right" and help people "forget".

I had read that too. They certainly don't want to leave windows 8 users stranded without a start menu, and to retrofit it into windows 8 would be more work than only doing it once in windows 10. Basically most of the UI improvements to windows 10 are things I previous said should have been in windows 8, as the touch screen metro interface is hopeless on a desktop with a mouse. You can get used to it but productivity wise it isn't good. At the very least an upgrade from 8 to 10 should be less than $50.

Disrespective: Yeah, i'm really pleased that they are using an open development preview. It should hopefully give the users an OS which they actually want rather than something someone else thinks they want. We will see, of course.

Interesting that they chose to jump to v10. 9 is considered unlucky in Japan so perhaps that has something to do with it... or maybe it just got eaten...

I'm tempted to throw this on a machine and see what's what but might hold off to see how stable it is first as it would still need to be somewhat usable for me. I wonder if the preview will have media center capabilities out of the box?

You have Windows 10? Already? I see no reason why they would give us something stupidly buggy but it will be interesting to see what driver support is like for some of my more random hardware.

Probably not a surprise given my job and employer

The expectation is if it works on Win7, it works on Win8, it works on Win10
