Good point, I'm not an IE fan at all but on W10 IE is finally so clean and simple and how dare i say fast, debinged with added Google it might actually be a good browser :P

joker97: one thing that MIGHT catch them out is, if any site would be incompatible with something, chances are, it will be IE11. maybe get them to use chrome or mozilla or something.

IE11 should be fine, MS have put a lot of work into compatibility even going to the point of including code to support earlier versions of IE.

Give it a try, you might be surprised at how good it is.

ironically I ended up installing chrome as Dad has started using his Gmail account as his main email address and I couldn't get gmail to imap to outlook 2010 for some reason, so installed chrome as it just plays nice with Google accounts

Have to agree with Graemeh IE does seem to work quite well in its latest incarnation

If anyone else is getting this error message in windows update

Do what I found here (copied below):

I had about 15 updates waiting, mostly security. I don't think W10 is quite ready for prime time yet.

(this)
Simply make these changes and the windows updates should start working

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX] "IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings] "UxOption"=dword:00000000

There is another build due soon. I suggest waiting if you are having issues.

There will always be another build due soon. Even when we RTM in the next few months.

Expect the pace of Windows Insiders builds to pick up soon. Things are coming together nicely.

What's a windows insider build? Is that a standard tech preview build or a special program?

In theory you need to be a member of the Insider program to get the builds, so he means the next build released to people on the Fast lane of the program (and I think you mentioned earlier you are set to Fast). The latest build has been expected for the last week or two and should at least be sometime this month... Will be build 10031 or later at a guess.

Anyone having issues running iTunes on Windows 10? I've done an upgrade from Windows 8.1, and it doesn't start at all. Also tried doing a clean install, and that didn't help either.

Was working fine on an upgrade version and working fine on a clean install. You might want to clean install the preview.

I got that Windows Update error all the time, but just do a manual check and it finds/installs new things

Starting to notice that pinned documents on Word/Excel 2013 are not staying pinned

I decided to take the plunge and I am currently installing the Tech Preview on my Laptop, this is not my daily driver though

The install went with incident and all is working ok, just OK nothing special. First impressions? Hmm, I know it's pre-release Beta but I am not convinced about the new start menu, it just looks a bit amateur and hacked together feel the Windows 8.1 set up is better. The notifications clearly very "work in progress". As for the folder icons etc, please MSFT change these or over choice as the ones in this preview are horrible.
Again I know it's pre-release but the transitions are not fluid and there are way too many design inconsistencies, I am certain these will be gone when the final release candidate is complete.

As MSFT state clearly in their blurb this is definitely not a daily driver.
