DeepBlueSky: Just read your update Biggus, bugger X fingers they get a solution ASAP.
Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries
nathan:mdav056:DeepBlueSky: One of reasons PC'S so versatile is that you can assemble them with a bunch of random components. This also their achilles heal so when a new OS arrives even with all the testing there will be weird happens like these, Apple have a distinct advantage in that they make the hardware so they should know all the variables when they release an OS it should just work.
I take my hat off to Microsoft even Linux, for supporting so much gear, that's why I not surprised by this happening. Once you have the install media you should be okay, the only thing I would suggest is run a tool like 'Gary Utilities' to run a health check prior to your upgrade.
Agree absolutely.
My news is that USB upgrade on my Compute Stick failed -- downloaded the creation tool onto a USB, put the media onto its D drive (64 GB SD card) and ran it. All went well until it required a reboot without the media so I turned it off, extracted the SD card, and restarted (by pressing the button on the stick). On rebooting, it stuck in BIOS, so I had to attach a wired keyboard to tell it to boot normally. Then I inserted the SD card, and it came up with some error (forgotten) and put me back, after a while, into 8.1.
Other related news -- I reported somewhere that my ASUS T100 said it could not be upgraded to 10 -- error, it is a ME400C. That's bad, and won't reflect well on ASUS, MS, and Intel -- there will be thousands of 2-year old tablets out there that are stuck in 8.1. However, I did find on the web someone saying "just go ahead and upgrade, it will work with the 8.1 drivers", so I might do that. And likely brick it.
I'm thinking now of going the ISO way for both machines, via a powered CD/DVD reader, as this may be simpler than juggling USB drives and wired keyboards. Any comments on that approach? Might have to wait until my 80 GB allowance rolls over!
please send me the contents of the "c:\windows\panther" folder for Setup Logs on your failed install
I can't see why Asus T100 would not work, it is a Clovertrail ATOM and I have a few other systems with that working. They are all the same inside so I can't see why it wouldn't work.
Yes go ISO
