Driver update software: when I see crap like that installed I allways expect the worst. It may have had malware that made permission changes or generally screwed things up.

Hmmmmm yes probably hit the nail on the head. He needs to start again with a new install. Will push for that. Thanks for the replies guys. Will post an update if he does that. I think he has uninstalled all the crap using that Microsoft Fix application that someone generously mentioned. So is happy enough now but as it is its still not right. Cheers
