I would also be make sure there is no Internet Proxy server setup in the computers Internet network settings.
Go to Control panel -> Internet options -> Connections (tab) -> Land settings (button)

Search for Proxy in Windows settings

Hmm, I feel like there is something grabbing the traffic and modifying it before it leaves your computer.

Having said that, unless it's at the network layer, like a third party firewall, VPN or endpoint protection app or similar, with a driver injected into the OS, I'd expect you to be able to access the site from safe mode with networking.

I'd probably start looking for tools or utilities on your computer. Sometimes disabling things like Endpoint Protection (Antivirus in older terminology) isn't sufficient, as they install low level drivers, and an uninstall is required. I'd likely start with VPN or IP changing software.

I think I heard you mention you use a DNS Switching service many moons ago?

Yes but that was very long ago and mainly on another computer. I will check for it though.

I agree with @networkn It does look like there is some "man in the middle" thing catching or re-routing requests to amazon.com

Have you tried a network reset. WinKey type Settings Select Network & Internet down the bottom is a link button to Network reset

I would also be interested to see if you have the same issues if you booted into Safe mode with Networking

I did try Safe mode with networking and that also didn't make any difference. Sorry, I should have mentioned that but it is hard to keep hold of all the threads.

I just ran through installed apps and features and I found a DNS switcher and uninstalled it and rebooted. No difference.

I'm a little reluctant to do a network reset. As must be obvious by now, my networking skills are minimal. I don't want to lose connectivity altogether. Different devices have been haywired with static IP addresses all over the place and at my age I really don't want to have to try to put all that together again. If there really is no other way, I may just decide to live with it. I never use Amazon anyway, which is why I didn't discover the problem earlier.

Can you get a live Linux bootable USB, and test from that? I'm pretty sure it will work fine, but that would confirm the problem is with the operating system. Sometimes it's not worth fixing problems, just reinstall the OS.

The problem is definitely with the OS. I have another drive that is a clone except it is older and I stuck that in as a test and it worked fine. Whatever is causing the problem is something that happened recently.
