KiwiNZ: there is no 9 why?  7 8 9

That's such a Dad joke, but it made me lol way too hard laughing

There's no "Nine" because they want to move away from "Eight" as quickly as possible. Also Windows X sounds like... you know what.

So, if the base version is now Windows X, does that mean that the professional "pro" version will become Windows XP?

nathan: Just.like when Word went from Word 2 to v6

This was because one of their major competitors at the time was WordPerfect 5.1

actually the Mac version was ahead of PC in versions (mac started a few years earlier), so it was brought into line with that.

Does anyone know where the download links are? In OS X I keep getting a message stating that it's not available for my system, and the "get info about installing on another device" link doesn't contain any downloads. This occurs even if I set my user agent to Windows IE.

Thanks, however I ended up using VMware anyway so for reference, consumer 64-bit can be directly downloaded from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=510227 and the SHA1 is 17C6CD7224D13DB61B93A4A9D38202E3A0019378.

Not sure where you found Enterprise; the link to download it gave me 8.1!

curious to know, why in a cloud world you wouldn't want to login with a cloud account?

I don't need a cloud account to login to my personal PC at home....
It's not part of the cloud....

Getting into the final part of installation now. Password hint is still required when creating an account (why?) but thankfully you can still just put a space in there.

sure, but you want to download Modern Apps from the Store, OneDrive, synch settings, synch favourites/password/SSIDs etc

Google requires an ID, Apple requires and ID, just trying to understand if you don't see any benefits in using any of those cloud IDs?

I don't understand why people wouldn't want a cloud login.

Being able to sync so many things across my laptop, tablet and desktop machine all running 8.1 after years of being frustrated by them all being standalone is awesome.
