This is more than a one-time upgrade: once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device – at no additional charge

Windows 10 certainly looks more promising than Windows 8, but it's still not enough to pull me as a Windows 7 traditionalist across the line. The flat, and tile-based interface is so bloody ugly!!
Fingers crossed there will be an option to run Aero Glass.
If not, Windows 7 is where I shall remain..

There will be no glass, you get used to the flat interface, I also didn't like it, but actually now am fairly partial to it.

You'll find keeping W7 indefinitely will expose you to some serious risk as time goes on.

Wow this sounds very exciting, especially the free upgrade from Windows 7.
I'm finding Windows 7 is getting a bit long in the tooth to support now days, and performance is comparatively poor I've got lots of mobile users who need the metered network usage features of later versions of windows etc.

I haven't had a look at Windows 10 yet, but will be moving as many devices as possible to it.
I'm assuming Windows 7 Pro upgrades to Windows 10 Professional (Equivalent)? Correct?

Must admit, have no idea what'll happen with WMC, but you could give Media Browser Server / Media Browser Theatre a go. Very impressive I think, though its early days for the Theatre part of the equation. Pity though, WMC is one of things that 'just works'.

Never liked the 8 interface. But at the expense of eye candy I accepted the os and embraced it. Don't have to like it.

I wonder how seamless this annual clean reinstall will be. Maybe they record your hardware on the internet ...

YES - this is one of the MAIN "it just works" parts. Being able to watch and record broadcast TV is still important to me, as of yet I cannot find an alternative. Plus it is 'easy' (relatively speaking) to add Sky to a HTPC, making up for the lack of channels on Freeview.

Your certainly right about the 'state of constant beta' bit. Theater won't work at all for me at the moment - will have to ask them about it.

You can use the server to watch TV on a web page though, works so far for me (that's with a tuner card in my PC). Will be able to watch TV on Theater at some point, don't know when though.

Still, its a bunch of talented guys writing this stuff pretty much for free, and they've never claimed its supposed to be finished, so I'll happily carry on experimenting with it.

Ah well, don't know about SKY (am to cheap to pay for it). Think Media Browser has a plugin that will launch Netflix (though guess that's not the same, especially if you're into sports).

Still if you have Windows 8 Pro with WMC hopefully you'll be able to re-download WMC onto Windows 10, depends how hard MS try to kill it I guess.
