Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
nathan:Wade: So my 4yo laptop running Win7 qualifies for a free upgrade to Win10 provided i upgrade within 12mths of Win10's release?
If so this is awesome news as i was questioning whether i save some dollars and recycle that license to my next desktop build or bite the bullet and buy Win8.1
A free upgrade for Windows 10 will be made available to customers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 who upgrade in the first year after launch.
This is more than a one-time upgrade: once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device – at no additional charge
Haere taka mua, taka muri; kaua e wha.
ScuL: Windows 10 certainly looks more promising than Windows 8, but it's still not enough to pull me as a Windows 7 traditionalist across the line. The flat, and tile-based interface is so bloody ugly!!
Fingers crossed there will be an option to run Aero Glass.
If not, Windows 7 is where I shall remain..
timbosan:nathan: Windows Media Centre hasn't been updated since Windows 7
Yeah - can anyone from Microsoft tell me if Media Center is included in this free upgrade? If not, what are the details? Does Windows 10 come with Media Center built in (AKA Windows 7) or as a stupid paid for add-one (AKA Windows 8, which in case you didn't get I think was a BAD idea and a great way to kill of a great part of Windows).

There will be no glass, you get used to the flat interface, I also didn't like it, but actually now am fairly partial to it.
You'll find keeping W7 indefinitely will expose you to some serious risk as time goes on.

Must admit, have no idea what'll happen with WMC, but you could give Media Browser Server / Media Browser Theatre a go. Very impressive I think, though its early days for the Theatre part of the equation. Pity though, WMC is one of things that 'just works'.

I was a BIG user of Media Browser (the version that runs inside MCE) but I have as of yet found no alternative to MCE that works, is easy to use, and looks good. MB Theater looks like it could do everything, but isn't it in a state of constant 'beta'?

And works with TV tuners out of the box just like that...

YES - this is one of the MAIN "it just works" parts. Being able to watch and record broadcast TV is still important to me, as of yet I cannot find an alternative. Plus it is 'easy' (relatively speaking) to add Sky to a HTPC, making up for the lack of channels on Freeview.
