Notifications are a pain in the butt. I would prefer the start menu to be arranged like W7, so you can put things above where your username is. Plus "places" on the start menu is a waste of space.

not sure about all these annoyances, am numb to them .... as the only thing i find perfectly layed out was what was in windows 7

Agreed, I feel they could have enhanced the W7 look and feel and added functionality lots of people have been asking for for a long time.

I guess they feel people won't switch unless the UI changes significantly even if it's for the worse.

MAC OS hasn't had a major UI revamp that made everything harder to find and it has no trouble selling annual upgrades for $50.

Personally it's the way I would have headed.

I'm actually growing quite fond of the new start menu, compared to W8.1, W10 seems a lot more cohesive in its approach, W7 seems clunky to me now

OS X updates do not cost and haven't so for a while now.
