all file associations destroyed, networks reset to 'public' (used to be easy to fix this but now I have to google it in some arcane location).

It is like i have installed a new OS, except my old programs are still there.

What gives?

I fixed the long time to move file folders...rebooting a couple of times did that.

That is exactly what you have done - installed a new version of Windows 10.

I think that it was misleading to call this an "upgrade".

Smithy47:

Does anyone know where MS Edge now stores it favourites.  It is not in the same place prior to the upgrade.

Thanks

Here %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites

Yes, they REALLY didn't want you to find them by accident!

That's where they were, but in the new version they have gone.  It still holds the prior version of favourites but if you change anything it does not happen in that folder.

Thanks.

I'm using the media creation tool as I'm going to have a few machines to upgrade. It seems you can't choose home or pro edition any more, does this mean that the ISO will upgrade both, or has it decided for me since I'm running the tool on 8.1 pro?

I tried it after downloading the ISO, it detects the current version of Windows that's installed and upgrades appropriately. Haven't tried with a clean install yet but I guess it will ask which one you want at some point during setup.

Yeah Metro app data storage locations are bananas.

OK, I have tracked them down. It seems as if there has been a change in how and where they are stored. They are now xml files.

In the 'AC' folder shown above, I have folders #!001, #!002 and #!121 and that is where the storage location diverges. See below for an example.

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\#!001\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\DOMStore\GFEVVA1C

So it is very hard to track or control favorites now as there are randomisations in the #!nnn folder and the last randomly generated 8 char folder.

Good luck with whatever you were planning on doing!!

Installed Windows 10 Enterprise on my existing Windows 10 Enterprise Surface 3... Quick and painless.

Strange networking issue since 10.1 installed.

I can access the internet fine, but cant get to any shared folders on other PC's on the network.
I can ping them, and they show up under "Network", just cant map to them.
One of those PC's has a website which I can access.
I can print to the wifi printer.

Here is what Windows thinks the problem is:

I've got no idea what to do with that.

Edit : forgot to say other PC's (win7, and Win10 v10240) can access shared files fine.

Both our Windows 10 laptops continue to access our HP Microserver with shared folders.

I was just coming to say W10 update also messed with my shared folders, but I got it working again. I had to go into network and sharing center, into advanced, and set it up again. Turning on discovery, file and print sharing, network discovery is off, media streaming on, password protected sharing off.

Stupid update. I bet they've pissed off many people with this, for something that seems unchanged.

windows 10 upgrade reinstalled my network drivers. keeping my NIC in its empty state, while killing off my virtual VLAN NICs. Leaving me with no connectivity till i restored it all..

Likely something changed in your upgrade too..

my password protected SMB mounts went dodgy after the install as well, had to remove them and reboot then readd them.

I had a VLAN NIC set up as well. Thats buggered too.
This upgrade is sucky.
Several hours of tinkering with various network settings and I've made no progress.
I think I will restore back to 10240 as I havent seen anything in 10586 thats worth keeping.
