kiwifidget: Where on windows.com is the link to download the iso? All I can see are instructions on how to reserve it.

check back after 4PM

Thanks. Nathan, do you know if the Intel Tiny Stick is good to go for Win10?

I've not tried it. It should be good to go. Does the reservation app say it passed compatibility testing?

I'm still in the preview ring for my Venue Pro, loving how quickly these new builds are coming.  The build today (10547) made the store icon look like the old WebOS one (except blue rather than orange).

Throw back!

Does anyone know how to reset an insider preview download.

Windows update says that th2_release professional is available (it has done for a week) but a restart is scheduled.  When I restart, instead of doing an install, it just boots back as per normal and says there is a pending restart.

I have checked and it does not appear to have downloaded the update to the normal locations, so I suspect its failed part of the way through.

update: resolved

Waited a short while after resetting windows update, then rebooted and it picked up it needed to try again after displaying a notification about failed updates.

I saw people in the Windows Central forum going into raptures over the change of color of this icon.   Gee there must have been some better changes that that in this build..

Can people still effectively get W10 free by being in the insider program? If so how do you do it? On the insider page you can download the media creator tool, but you still need a serial number - where would you get that? Or do you have to buy it now.

Friend of mine had XP, I put him onto W10 insider, now the version he had has expired. I could put him back on XP but something wasn't working well, I don't remember what.

Expired? Is he a member of the Insider Programme? It should activate automatically.

Else, If not an insider/upgrade/appstore source then a product key is required.

I have an insider machine running GM, still running. Maybe joining insider is an option if he is not there already but I dont know how open it is.

Not sure if I made him a member of the insider program. I think I had him on 10162. All he's told me is it's expiring in a couple of days.

If I wanted to install W10 insider build from scratch how would I do that?

Insiders were bumped off onto RTM/10240 with a licensed copy, if they have previously activated, and had to opt back into Insiders builds if they wanted to continue on the Insider flights.

So is it still possible to effectively pay for W10 by being an insider giving feedback, or has that ship sailed?

Haven't managed to find the answer to this yet. I get the below message that my wireless adapter is not compatible and I may not be able to connect to the internet. Is it worth the risk doing the update or should I just stick with Windows 7? If I do it and then can't connect to the internet would be it possible to go back to Windows 7 or would that be it for this laptop?

yes you can be on the perpetual Windows Insider Preview program, but you won't get a free/activated version now like you could previously.  You will need to stay on the program and update, else your copy of Windows will expire.

You can check the expiry date from WINVER

Checked WINVER. Mine says expiring 2 Oct 12:59pm (ie early this afternoon!). Ouch. I was still moving stuff (dual boot W7/W10) to make sure of compatibility.

Oooh bugger, mine too.

I think my version didn't leave me an upgrade path because I installed it over an enterprise version of win8

If it's the persons main computer using insider builds is ill advised. They probably need to start with their latest legit OS and do the upgrade path, after that they can clean install if they have an activated install registered.

$200 for W10 home is a lot of money to some people, if they wanted a full version of W10. There's no upgrade path from XP as far as I know. So it's probably either ancient XP with security issues or W10 insider, which should be pretty reliable by now.
