tdgeek: If you turn off the Tile UI to go back to the classic version, how similar is that to W7?

You cant turn off the Metro (tile) UI, it basically replaces your standard desktop and start menu. However my desktop view looks a lot like W7, pretty much exactly like it to be honest... Just the start menu will take you to the metro ui or hovering your mouse over it will allow you to access settings, devices, share, search and start

I always put 'computer' on the  desktop, can't figure this out on win8.

I don't like the replacement start menu, can't figure out how to view 'my programs'. But, haven't had much time yet.

Initial impression is that i don't like the metro thing.maybe it will grow on me.

Metro is clearly a touch ui - it's useless for HID's

bakery2k: Can anyone confirm that the SHA-1 hashes given on this page are correct? I just finished downloading the three files and for all of them, I get a different hash.

I hope I don't have to download them again...

I downloaded
WindowsDeveloperPreview-64bit-English-Developer.iso
and the SHA-1 hash is the same as the Microsoft website says...

Thanks. It turns out that Firefox was truncating the downloads. Using "wget -c" allowed me to get the missing parts without downloading everything again.

Nonetheless, this is very worrying. I wonder if Firefox has silently corrupted any other downloads...

The metro UI, IMO, is just not comfortable when using a mouse and keyboard. It just doesn't feel right.
I can definitely see how it would be absolutely perfect for a touchscreen device, but it is hopeless with a mouse and keyboard.

I really do hope Microsoft gives us a way of enabling the old style start menu. This new metro start menu is driving me nuts!!
