GBristow: I was seriously considering the pro but looking at the prices PBTech are offering for preorder I think they're going to be grossly overpriced. Might be worth waiting for prices to drop and bugs to be worked out.
Kingy: $1,723.85 inc GST for those wondering what the PB Tech price is. 128GB Model.

freitasm: According to the Surface blog today, Surface Pro will be available in New Zealand before end of May.
I wonder if it will be good enough I could replace my laptop with it. It was great replacing the desktop with the ultrabook. The Surface RT is a great machine for light use, but want something for work.

Thanks for the updates.
I was very disappointed with Microsoft Global releasing plan.
They are still very immature in term of manufacturing and setuping their distribution network. I see their strategy of releasing first RT version followed by Pro is a totally disaster and this also get most people confused with two version.
Look how long does it take for Apple to bring their product to people around the world. Comparing with Microsoft, it is such a joke. Well, this just gives their competitors a perfect chance to catch up. You know what? I can't be bothered to wait till June for the Pro. I will go for HP.

Sorry you're disappointed with Surface Pro not being available in NZ yet
The strategy for RT vs Pro is to have a Windows on ARM tablet and provide customers choices
Many early adopters have already imported theirs from overseas themselves before the NZ launch
The reason for the staggered worldwide rollout is due to the demand, working with NZ retail partners and doing the launch right
Comparing Apple to Microsoft, maybe you don't remember about the original iPhone/iPad release which wasn't initially available in NZ
Great that you're buying an HP device, thats the beauty of the Windows hardware ecosystem. Its not just do you want a White or Black, 16, 32 or 64 GB and WiFi or WiFi and 3G. Its do you want a tablet, a convertible, a hybrid, do you prefer HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Toshiba etc
Also Surface Pro is available next month not July

Kingy: Beauty. Are you going to write up a review on it? For me it really is between these two and because the ASUS has 3g it might just be leading the way. Would be interested to here your thoughts.

the Asus VivoTab RT available in NZ does not have 3G mobile broadband
the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU in it is slightly faster than the Nvidia Tegra based Windows on ARM devices
ask away any other questions you have, I've been using once since October
GV27: I hope someone has some plans to bring a decent 3G/4G Win 8 tablet to New Zealand at some stage.
