Folks, if you run Windows Update you will see there's an update to Windows Update itself.

Install this update now. It changes the URL used by Windows Update, to prevent problems that could be introduced by trojan malware such as Flame.

One of the windows updates recently was an update to WSUS which we use to patch all our other machines. The update broke WSUS :/

Seemed like quite a common problem based on others reporting it / troubleshooting it on the net. We got it sorted after quite a bit of faffing but surely MS can test this stuff a bit better. Breaking the server that updates everything else is not a good way to encourage patching!

not actually far from what Windows itself says when checking:

Install new Windows Update sofware


To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.
