I have purchased an Office 2007 beta CD but find that I have the following error message when I try to install:

Setup cannot find Pro.WW\ProWW.cab. Browse to a valid installation source, and then click OK.

If I try to select the folder OWP5.tmp\Pro.WW and install it says the file is corrupt.

Any ideas please???

Welcome to Geekzone... This indicates a corrupt installation file - the only way is to download it again.

Note that you shouldn't purchase beta software. First because it was available for free for anyone who wanted to test it until a few weeks ago. Second because beta software means just that, a testing version, and most likely with problems, hence the distribution to people willing to test and report faults.

Office 2007 is now official and will be available to consumers in early 2007. I recommend you stick with your current version of Office and leave beta versions for people who actually test software or know how to.

By the way, Office 2007 and Windows Vista beta installs expire about March 2007, so this copy you are trying to install would stop working anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for that.

I purchased from Microsoft as the download facility was disabled and they are not interested in re-sending the disk.

I'm not actually as green with software as I may seem. I am just a little bit more cautious when its my system I'm messing with
Any further comments as to how to actually get it working would be appreciated.

Hmmm. Interesting. In this case I would contact a Microsoft office and request a new disc, because it could be a scratch or something like this. Keep pushing through them to find someone in the Office area?

Hi Again,

I've sent MS (to date) 13 e-mails, made 7 phone calls, all requesting a new disk. One guy answering the phone blatantly told me he thought I was trying to get something for nothing???

Such is Microsoft I guess

The experience we have with Microsoft in New Zealand is different. People have been very helpful and reaching out for the community, providing support and information.

I think this person is probably a contractor - some of these people don't know what goes on inside a company. Call the Microsoft UK help desk again. Do you have a receipt? If so you can then invoke some consumer protection law, if those are available in the UK and ask for the disc to be replaced.

Actually I get simliar errors when trying to install some standalone Office applications on any post RC1 Vista build where I already have Office installed. Also Office won't install if you already have any standalone components installed.

What OS do you have and make sure you have no Office apps of any kind installed.
