I always think the best way to upgrade from a beta is a full clean install. None of the leftovers from old versions.

Oh dear...  I seems to have lost the message body above.  

Just checking my best upgrade options (that takes least amount of time / cost least).

If I download the $49 upgrade version - will it work on a Win8 Beta - The tablet does not have a DVD - so prefer to do an upgrade - otherwise I need to go look for a portable DVD drive etc.....

You don't need a DVD for install. You can transfer to a USB key and install from there - can't you download the full version?
