Hi

My sister-in-law wants me to sort out her PC which is infected with this Vista Security 2013 rogue virus.   I am a Mac person and so am pretty unfamiliar with Windows, though can follow instructions as well as anybody else.   I've googled this virus and come up with all sorts of sites that want me to download other software to remove this virus, but I have no really good way of telling which of these site are valid in themselves.   Can anybody point me to a good and reliable set of instructions?   I'm comfortable removing registry entries etc as long as I can trust the steps I am following.

Thanks!  Tricia

Your best and safest option is:

www.bleepingcomputer.com

and do a search for the malware name that is affecting the PC. There are normally very clear and easy to follow instructions.

You will probably be instructed to run a program called Malwarebytes in safe mode to remove the malware, and there will be a direct link to download the program safely from bleeping computer.

Any worries come back here and someone will help you out.

As someone with a better Mac knowledge than Windows, I had the same situation about 6 months ago, trying to get rid of Malware on a Windows machine for a relative. Malwarebytes did the trick.
