We recently acquired a laptop with O/S installed, and the COA and Product Key ... no problem there.

Included was a genuine (not OEM) disk of Office 2007 Home & Student, BUT the previous owner did not have the Product Key sleeve/documentation.

This software had never been installed so I cannot use an app to recall the 25 digit code.  Although the disk is a genuine beast, we don't have the reciept or any proof of original purchase etc.

Has anyone sucessfully petitioned Microsoft to have a new key handed out?

Theyll give you one at the price of a new copy.... without any proof of ownership, theres no way for MS to tell that you havent just borrowed a friends CD.

The disk is not the licence, the COA with the licence key on it is.

The sleeve is more valuable than the disk.As you don't have a key, you don't have a license, so I doubt they will just give you a new one. You may want to get the new version that has just been released.

And there lies the reason why I have always written the Key on the Disk.
