hi guys
I got a DVD from TVNZ archives and wish to rip it to MPEG for my apple TV.
Ive tried handbrake but it doesnt recognise the DVD.
can anyone recommend a freeware product to rip this DVD.
note, it wont run on my PC, I dont know what format this DVD is but it plays in my DVD player

DVD43 is free PC software that often works.

It might be a region problem though I doubt it as you got it from NZ publisher. But it would explain why it won't play on the PC but will on the DVD player: PC DVD drives are generally limited to one DVD region; DVD players are more likely to be multiregion.

If you have 32 bit handbrake, copy these two files into the \programfiles(x86)\handbrake directory.

Libdvdcss is from here:

Libdvdnav is from my VLC install.

Copy libs into handbrake directory, open dvd from source, rip. All in one package.
There is a 64 bit libdvdcss from here:

I do not have a 64 bit libdvdnav but it may work without it but you may have to disable libdvdnav from the options:

Thanks video geeks, forgot to say I had region free installed.
I'll drop those DLL's in and see what happens.
Handbrake has done everything for me so far, would be great to be able to stick with this tool.

AnyDVD is probably the best DVD ripping solution that exists. Are you just ripping or encoding the DVD too? My understanding is that Handbrake is designed to encode DVD/Blu-ray streams and is not such a great tool for doing so.
