I have a installation disk for office 2010 that a friend copied for me with the COA key on the cover.

I originally had a trial version of OFFICE 365 and then uninstalled it when the trial ran out.

My question is,  I have loaded Office 2010 using the disk and the request for COA key never came up?   There have been no messages asking for authentication.

Does anyone know why it installed without the key request?

I am running windows 8 on my laptop.

Perhaps you installed from a copy of the Volume License media or some dodgy modified installer downloaded from the Internet?
If you have a Product Key Card for Office 2010, you can obtain the installer from http://office.microsoft.com/US/Products/redir/XT101865034.aspx
Product activation details can be found under File menu > Help.

It wont ask for the key until 30 days from install date, even the Open Value version requires a key.

Open MS Word, go to file then help, there is an activation section in the top right of that screen if memory serves me correctly.

If you just want to edit one file, then perhaps instead of installing a pirated copy of Office 2010 you can extend the Office 365 or Office 2013 trial.

Next time, use Office Libre and you won't be infringing any copyrights and/or licenses.

Thanks for your advice, I went to word and sure enough, under help it says that it needs to be activated. So will complete editing the word doc and then look into downloading Office Libre. :)
