On the 7th (Auckland), 14th (Wellington) & 21st (Christchurch) of March, is the 2007 Technical Briefing from Microsoft.

Anyone been to one of these before? Did you enjoy it, and find it worthwhile?

I have enjoyed and utilised other Microsoft events, and behind the hype & sales pitch, they are still pretty packed with useful information.

I have decided to attend the Wellington event. I will be driving down (too tall for planes...) from Hawkes Bay. Im willing to take one or two people down if you are looking to go from Hawkes Bay / Manawatu.

Registration is $199

Maybe I should join you... except that I may go to Christchurch one... :-D

I have been to other Microsoft TechNet seminar and they've been pretty informative. I also usually go for the swag/goodies too. :-D

$199 + GST is cheap for a copy of Vista Ultimate even if you do sleep through the presentation! :-)

A technical breifing isnt a technet thing? Ok I'm confused. Wake me up when MS is hosting free sandwiches and stuff again.

It was quite fun last time I went to one. Only for a novelty though. One must remember it is basically a sales-thing. It was like being in church. I think I even scribbled on the back of their folder thing a picture of a church with the Windows logo on it.

Got to learn alot about what MS was doing at the time. They had just heard about 'off by default' when I was there last, and they were showing of ACLs for programming APIs. At least thats what I remember. I was too busy drawing.

I won a free copy of Office 2003 though. I sold it to some sucker for hundreds of dollars on Trademe. Thanks MS.

C'mon... Then you want us to trust your opinion on operating systems? I know what to ignore next time I read someone talking about Mac OS so highly in the #geekzone chat now...

well that was a worthwhile day!

the content of the presentations was outstanding - not too much "buy microsoft RA RA RA" at all - except for the keynote perhaps!  some quality presenters too, although the virtualisation guy did suffer from superspeedyspeechsyndrome and lacked personality....from sitting near the back i could see the whole auditorium start to get jittery about half way through and until the end of his section :)

lunch was superb - well done Duxton for that!  i found the exchange and sharepoints sections to be particularly useful and interesting!

now i just have to wait for safenet to update their vpn software before i can install vista on my laptop :) hurrrrrryyyyyyyyy!!!!
