hey there, my computer sometimes has super slow bootup , just hangs, the icons wont appear, or they appear and then the widgets wont, ive done full reg fix, checked all startup programs, done hard disk checks, updates are set to manual, defrag done, ive done the win 7 test tool that comes with windows, does anyone know of a good windows test tool ,that i can download and run?
I get this too. Win 7 64bit on a laptop with dual core Intel and 4GB RAM. More processes add over time, more other bits and pieces add over time. Strip out temp files, startup, etc, defrag, etc, never really seems to make a lot of difference. All I do is email, bit O browsing on it, a coffee table laptop.
I can guarantee if I clean installed Windows it would be sweet. Seen that so many times over the years. I wonder at times if a Mac is a better option

I have observed this behaviour to correlate with the drive dying soon after. Something to beware of, though I am not saying that it what is happening. For example, recently I had a really slow desktop startup because a Steam update had to convert a bunch of files and was hitting the drive hard.
