Did you know if you want to install Windows 8 on a Mac using Bootcamp you cannot do this with the upgrade editions Microsoft sells?

Why can't Microsoft release a digital download version that detects whether a user has a Mac and allows the user to purchase a clean install version?

It would save alot of hassle of having to source a clean install of Windows 7 and then upgrade it to Windows 8

It would be a cash cow for Microsoft

Sure, but do you have a previous install? It doesn't look like - in which case it's not an upgrade.

Windows 8 Upgrade - this suggests it is meant to 'upgrade' from the previous version. I do not understand what is the issue here.

You are not upgrading your OSX by installing Windows 8.

In the same way you can't use an upgrade version to do a clean install on a PC.

It's debatable if windows 8 is an upgrade to OSX.

Well you cant upgrade OSX to windows. OSX is not a Microsoft product.

At the end of the day the OP is running a seperate instance of an OS. No different to expecting a Windows 8 Upgrade to work on a Linux box in its own allocated partition.

No you don't need to install 7 and the upgrade, Just go and get a copy of Windows 8 "system builder" its what the OEM install is now called,

While we're on it - by your logic why doesn't Apple make a copy of OS X that will detect I am running Windows and install OS X.

Oh right - because they artificially restrict their OS to only run on their overpriced commodity kit.

My mistake.
