'Hi Folks,
(apologies if this is double posted, am using a beta browser [IE11]).

Just wondering if anyone is getting issues with sending email via Hotmail this morning.  About 9:30am I stopped being able to send emails via Hotmail from outlook.  Its timing out and giving an error:  Sending reported error (0x800CCC0F) : The connection to the server was interrupted.

Am using the settings  smtp.live.com 587/TLS.

Its not firewall or AV related as far as I can see and  I can receive emails from the pop server and send via other accounts just fine.

Just wondering if there is an outage or a settings change I am not aware of.

Regards..

Are you using their webmail service to do this, or some sort of mail client? If the latter, try via the webmail service to see if that works. I have had no problems with my outlook.com account or Office365 today.

If you're using the Outlook Connector, try reinstalling it. Have had that issue on a couple of computers lately.

Are you using Outlook 2013 (no add on needed) or Outlook 2010 (and lower) which requires the Hotmail Connector?

I am thinking it is a windows 8.1 issue as it works fine for me on windows 8 (different machine same settings)

I have been using Outlook 2010 without the Hotmail connector for quite a few years (just using normal pop/smtp). It just stopped this morning.

I don't use the Hotmail connector as it creates a separate folder (and pst file) for email, whereas I like to have all my email from different accounts go into the same inbox.

Just an update..

I'm using Office 2010 SP2 on both machines. On the machine with the issue I found the following in the system error event log.

A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 10. The Windows SChannel error state is 10.

After a bit of testing I can see that it is communicating with the smtp server but I suspect not being able to complete the connection - so I am wondering if it is because the transport level security is not being negotiated or set up correctly.

Just out of interest this is still an issue on 8.1 (I have not tried the new bits yet). I've seen a few other posts on the net and I believe that it is a certificate issue (out of sync) so the smtp.live.com is rejecting the connection.

Problem is, how to get the certs back in sync.

Both of our computers started having a problem a couple of days ago with our Oulook.com accounts.

It appears we are still able to receive and send OK but keep getting a "Connectivity Error". Both computers on Win 7 with Office 2010 using Outlook 2010 with Hotmail Connector.

The fact it started at the same time on both computers makes it look like a problem at the Outlook.com  server end.  it would be nice to know what the cause is.
