Today I've had some serious problems with my computer, I have never overclocked, however once again for the second time I get a blue screen of death and then I shut down my PC. Recently after I get a message saying Overclock failed and I went into the BIOS, went to Asus Optimal settings and then just saved and exited, once my PC started up everything went nuts! with explorer and everything. I rebooted once more and everything is working as normal so far. I desperatly need help with this issue, do you think it could be faulty hardware or software. I hope this problem will get solved soon. Thanks

Check for BIOS updates to start with, and check your running temps.
Also use something like UBCD and run a memory test to eliminate dodgy memory.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I have done what you said, I have checked with Windows Memory Diagnosis and no errors were found, I've checked on the Asus website for BIOS updates, there is 1 but I'm very nervous about flashing my BIOS. I've also checked my temps with Speccy, the highest temp during Idle is the GPU which is at 40C.

Thanks for your help. Also too, could you please tell me how I update the BIOS anyways? (I'm new to this pc hardware stuff)

Oh and I forgot to mention my system specs, which might help.

Case - cm storm enforcer

gpu - Asus direct CU gtx 650

CPU - Intel core i7 3820 with stock Sandy bridge-e air cooler

Motherboard - Asus p9x79le

Hard drives - Seagate Barracuda 2TB and Standard Toshiba Laptop drive from an old HP notebook.

Power Supply - Enermax NAXN 500w

Not sure about upgrading BIOS anymore as things have changed quite a bit since I last did one :) Think most these days allow you to download the BIOS onto a USB drive, and just load it via the current BIOS but check the motherboard manual for specifics. I only ever had one BIOS update fail on me in my years of computing (almost 20yrs now) and most are smart enough to avoid issues.

Id still recommend using a CD such as UBCD as the utils on it test everything about system, stress testing etc.
