I had seen some narrative that MS wouldn't support an upgrade path between Preview Builds and RTM, anyone know or tried this (If you had the RTM Version already) and know if it works etc?

I did a clean install. If you do attempt the upgrade, you will need to re-install all the apps again.

indeed, but this was clearly communicated when downloading the Windows 8.1 Public Preview

I can be back up and running on a new blank machine in about 10-15 mins, including Win8.1 RTM installed and various key apps installed too, Office, Visual Studio etc and then my settings, files/documents and Windows Store apps come back down by SkyDrive

One lives in hope that these announcements might prove to be untrue as development continues etc....

I understood the risk, but one can hope.

After the clean install. I signed in with my Microsoft account and magic happened. All my bookmarks, browsing history, apps from store, settings, WiFi SSID incl passwords, Skydrive and much more resynced back to the machine.

You can do the preview to RTM upgrade by downloading the ISO from MS and modifying or removing a file from it.

Or you could wait till it shows up on Windows Update.

Upgrading preview to final will need apps reinstalled, upgrading 8.0 to 8.1 and your apps are all fine

Or you can just use this method and it will do a full upgrade without having to reinstall anything: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Upgrade-from-Windows-8-1-Preview-to-RTM-Guide-379950.shtml

Worked just fine for me.

Which unless you have an SLA of some sort is next to non existent for a consumer.
