Does anybody else have RSS Feeds that suddenly stopped working on May 1?

All of my GZ feeds as well as the NZ Herald ones just stopped working for whatever reason on May 1. I am using IE7 and have done all the obvious things like restarting, looking on Google, etc, etc...

Any suggestions would be welcome!

I understand you are using the IE7 RSS feature? Have you deleted and recreated the links?

Thanks Mauricio, that worked.

At this stage I have just deleted and recreated the GZ Main feed and now have the past 3 days worth of entries that I'd missed.

But I have 2 questions about this:

1) Why should ALL feeds on IE7's RSS reader stop working at exactly 12:00 midday on May 1?

2) Isn't there a quicker way to fix this than deleting and recreating all the feeds? (I have 21 entries set up)

12:00 on May 1 would be 0000 GMT. Is it something to do with Daylight Saving in the Northern Hemisphere perhaps?

I am still using tried/trusty XP SP2 by the way...

EDIT: An update...

Since deleting and recreating the GZ Main feed, I am now able to REFRESH all other feeds successfully by right-clicking and using the appropriate menu option. I tried this before, but it didn't work.

However, REFRESH ALL still doesn't work, so I have to refresh each feed one at a time. Still much better than deleting and recreating each one, so be thankful for small mercies I guess

A further update...

What is happening now is that all my RSS feeds no longer refresh every 15 minutes as they used to until 12:00 on May 1.

I have checked, and they are all set to the "Default Schedule" which is every 15 minutes.

Yet, if I refresh each RSS feed manually, the latest links appear.

1) Does anybody else use RSS feeds with GZ?

2) Or has everybody migrated to Vista with Mauricio's wizzy new gadget?

Something screwy is happening here...

Any thoughts and ideas appreciated.

I use both RSS and the Gadget, depending on which PC I use. No problems at all here

No, just Outlook Express.

I should also reiterate that it's not just the GZ feeds that have stopped refreshing. It's the NZ Herald ones as well

This is a real shame as I find that RSS brings any updates to my attention in a far more efficient manner than trawling through the lists of stories or forum posts in the way that I used to do. I really don't want to go back to a non-RSS world now, so if I can't rely on IE7's RSS reader, maybe I'll have to look at NewsGator or something like that.

Which RSS reader do you use Brad?

I use the IE7/Outlook 2007 one. I don't use it on a regular basis but it's working as we speak. Maybe your system got infected with a virus like opensource software.

No chance!!!

I have just found a whole pile of relevant info here:

And one of the suggestions in there just might have fixed it. As it mentions on that page, I found a Hidden Task in the Scheduler which was entitled "User_Feed_Synchronization" and surprise surprise, it had a last run time of 12:41 on May 1 (which is about the time my RSS feeds stopped working).

During the intervening 2 days, this task has been scheduled to run every 5 mins, but for some unknown reason, it was not completing.

So I deleted that hidden task, exited IE and then came back in again, whence it recreated the task. And now my RSS feeds are happily updating again -- so far anyway...

Hopefully all's well that ends well.

Good to know it is working, and there is a solution. If you ever want a separate RSS Feed reader I recommend FeedDemon.

But wait... there's more...

Upon firing up my PC this morning I noticed that the feeds had stopped refreshing again

I also noticed that the Result Code of the Scheduled Task was 0x1 which indicated that it wasn't completing properly.

After looking further through the web page referred to above, I had to do these additional steps:

Sometimes feeds are not updating because FeedsStore.feedsdb-ms file got corrupted.

In such cases you can try the following:

1. Close Internet Explorer.

2. Move FeedsStore.feedsdb-ms file to somewhere else on your local drive.

3. Back in IE, hit refresh so the file is recreated.

4. If things start working as expected, delete the old FeedsStore.feedsdb-ms file.

After doing that, and clicking REFRESH ALL on one of the feeds, they all refreshed and I have now noticed that the Scheduled Task displays a Result Code of 0x0 rather than 0x1.

It looks like the corrupted FeedsStore file was the root cause of this whole problem.

Touch wood, this is the end of the matter...
