It's for a piece of industrial machinery. No later drivers available and been working fine since 8.1 went on till the machine crashed for an unrelated reason.

Now it says code 48 drivers blocked for incompatibility. Thing is they worked fine. Anyone know where these blocked drivers are stored and how to delete the blocks? Registry somewhere?

Could not tell you where in the registry. I'd locate the driver entries in control set and see if there is anything obvious and or export then start editing. But here's a few other things to consider.

Before starting examine the event log to check your perception of when the drivers were disabled.

Three different methods:

1) Uninstall the drivers thoroughly reboot a couple of times and then reinstall in safe mode.

I guess that is risky if you end up in a situation where the drivers will not install so maybe try it last.

2) Find the location of the last known good automatic registry backups and restore one of those manually if it has a convenient date on it. (or diff it)

3) Use devcon to attempt enabling the device(s).

There is a newer version of the software from the guys in germany so hopefully this lot might include signed drivers.

I thought I would be sneaky and edit the inf file to have a greater version number and then install those ones - that didnt help, and as all 3 drivers the machine has use a single .sys file I am guessing it is looking at the version of that file.

Worst case I will be putting 7 on the machine tomorrow if the newer software package doesnt help.

There is a startup option to support unsigned drivers if that remains an issue.

Getting them installed with the start up option and oking the dialog on install that they are not signed is working. It's just after the last crash and reboot windows is blocking them from starting with some block list or similar.
