In my ever increasing battle with windows 8.1 I find that I cannot access my own files using SQL Server Management Studio. I am trying to attach a database and when I use the Attach dialog I can see the directory that contains the DB files, but attempting to access it gives the error: 'Cannot access specified path or file on the server. Verify you have the necessary privileges..."
I have tried running as administrator, elevated command prompt etc. but still cannot access the file. If I open Windows Explorer can navigate and view the file normally. I notice that in Management Studio I can only see the contents of about half the directories on this volume (d: drive). Have checked the permissions against folders that I can see the contents of and cant see any difference.
The machine was part of a fresh install from windows 8 to windows 8.1 (this is the data volume), so I suspect that I need to reset all of the file permissions - but which command to use?
