Hmmmm I've somehow deleted my original .pst and other files after changing my email from the auto imap setup in windows 8.1 to pop3 and can now only run Outlook as administrator. Is there anyway to get the windows 8 desktop icon to open outlook 2013 without having to right click and run as administrator

Have you tried reinstalling Outlook?
Naturally you may want to back up the mailbox files and folders.

Have you tried removing the mail profile and creating one again, from the Control Panel?

Also, remember if you are doing POP and removing items from the server it's up to YOU to make sure you have backup of your email (which now resides on a .pst file). I am saying that because one .pst file was already removed...

Hi Goosey , thanks for the reply.
Yes tried a "repair" and a Reinstall I have also tried to use windows 8 "File History" to roll back to earlier time but it says the files are no longer there, not sure how that works, I thought that was the whole point of "Roll Back" to an earlier time

I'm now in "the dog box" as wifey is having to click 3 times to open email.

As a temporary workwaround you could right-click, Properties and select Run as Administrator in the Compatibility tab.

Not recommended if your account is not an administrator account, for security reasons. Check my tip on creating a new profile...

Haha thanks Mauricio. I think that's what got me in trouble in the first place.
I actually prefer imap but it doesn't have all the flashy font features that come with outlook my wife prefers.
If only I'd noticed the "manual" setup button the first time I ran Outlook installer I think I would have been ok, now I'm too worried I'll lose even more emails

Thanks for the advice though

Woo Hoo fixed

The outlook email was looking for .pst files in my "Skydrive" directory not my "Documents" where they are being saved to

If I whack enough buttons I'll be able to fix it ;-)

IMAP gives all the same functionality as pop3, except you are limited to about 2000 messages per folder in most cases before it starts getting bogged down trying to sync.

With the flashy fonts, you probably had the email editor set to create new emails as text only, instead of rich text or html.

As mauricio says, If you are planning on using pop, make sure you backup your PST file regularly, and enable "leave on server for 30 days" in your mail account settings.
