Hi folks, just had a friend whose PC keeps on booting automatically into Automatic Repair on Windows 8 and just won't start up to Windows 8. When he turns it off and on again it just keeps going in a loop - Automatic Repair. I've tried chkdsk /r - ing it and it took about 2-3 hours but still keeps going in a loop.

The error log message that pops up is: c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt

We eventually tried "Refreshing the PC" but it just came back with "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made."

This looks like a similar thread: HERE

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

It is suggestive of a hardware component fault or driver fault. You could try opening an ensuring all connection are sound especially Ram and graphics board, but check all cable and other physical connection. The if that doesn't resolve try updating drivers.

Is it by any chance a HP?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

We can't update the drivers because we can't even get into Windows?

No, it's a Samsung All-in-one PC.

99% of the time this issue is a failed hard drive - do you have the option of a hardware test?

I did all the chkdsk but still didn't work. But don't worry now, they just reset the entire PC. Thanks for your help though.

Oh must you have a Windows disc to Refresh the PC? I didn't have to last time I had to refresh a PC.
